WARROAD MAIN AVENUE TO UNDERGO A TRANSFORMATION
Golden Sledgehammer Celebration Signifies Start of Construction
WARROAD, MINN – The Warroad downtown district will undergo a transformation over the next 18 months as work begins to renovate four old, dilapidated buildings on Main Avenue into a charming, updated streetscape. Completion is targeted for Summer 2023.
The owner, Warroad Real Estate, LLC hired JLG Architects to reimagine a portion of the city block to preserve the local history of the buildings while giving them a modern new life. Mortenson Construction was chosen as the commercial builder.
To mark the start of construction, a Golden Sledgehammer Celebration was held on Tuesday, April 26.
Warroad Real Estate, LLC acquired the bank of four buildings with the intent to ready them for future entrepreneurs after previous building owners retired and relocated. “Entrepreneurship is alive and well in Warroad, and what better place for future businesses to locate or relocate to add to the vibrancy in downtown Warroad,” said Brenda Baumann, co-project manager and executive director of the Discovery and Development Hub.
Over the past five years, Warroad has been undergoing a revitalization. The most visible indicator is the number of new business start-ups along Highway 11 and in the downtown area. Some examples include The Plaid Walleye, Lake of the Woods Brewing Company, Hampton Inn Warroad, the reopening of Daisy Garden and Joe’s Place and Lake of the Woods Coffee Company to name several.
“The heart of the city is the downtown district, and we are very excited about the Main Avenue Redevelopment and its potential to add more places to shop, explore or dine in Warroad,” said Mayor Bob Marvin.
This 38,200 square foot redevelopment project includes space for a restaurant as an anchor tenant, open floor plan commercial spaces, and a mix of 1-, 2-, 3-bedroom well-designed, market-rate apartments on the second story.

The DD-Hub is Moving Locations!
August 2, 2021 |
Dear friends of the DD Hub,
Over the past four years, we’ve been fortunate to serve you and the Warroad area community by offering co-working space, meeting space and entrepreneurial services at 201 Lake Street NE, Suites D & G. It’s been FUN and REWARDING!
To make room for a new offering in Warroad (yet to be announced), we are going to be moving our offices just a few doors down to 113 Lake Street NE, Suites B & C. The Warroad Chamber/Visitors Center will be joining us in the relocation and we again, will share space to serve the Warroad Area community.
We anticipate moving in the week of August 9 and will be in transition for a couple of weeks to prepare, settle in, test the technology, and work out any unforeseen circumstances.
Our new space at the DD Hub will be configured differently. We will no longer have capacity to host more than six people for a meeting, nor will we have private office space to reserve. Fortunately, with some new business start-ups, meeting space is available throughout the community. We are happy to provide you with a list of possibilities.
We will have two table-top nooks with video conference capabilities in semi-private spaces; and plenty of space to remote work, brainstorm or meet up with consultants. Our mantra has always been, “what happens at the hub, stays at the hub” and we keep confidentiality a high priority!
The idea of co-working is to collaborate, share ideas, and to learn from one another. We will be practicing our co-working model to its fullest extent at our new location and invite you to come take a look at our new space mid-August. Regular office hours are from 9AM – 4PM, Monday through Friday.
We are excited to serve you in our new location and appreciate your understanding as we work through this transition.
Sincerely,
Brenda Baumann
Executive Director
